How to Have the BEST YEAR EVER | Back to School Survival Guide for Students

The first few days of school are always a complete whirlwind!
It's a week of survival.
The first day especially - feed them, get them home - you should win teacher of the year if you do that day one. Am I right?

When I had my own classroom, I loved giving my kids 'Back to School Memory Books' to keep them busy while I gathered supplies, took care of house keeping tasks, etc. It was a way to keep the kiddos busy and entertained during the down times of the day. Which leads me to a new B2S book I created for my TpT store...

I loved creating this book.
It's cute and fun, but I wanted something to reinforce the rules and expectations you set as a teacher. Kids have the opportunity to review and share what the expectations are throughout the school - classroom, hallway, cafeteria, playground - all while giving you a chance to catch your breath and gather those last bit of glue sticks little Johnny sent in for the class.

Students can think about what kind of character traits they look for in a friend, and also brainstorm ways they can be a good friend to others throughout the year.

Students can set goals for themselves, think of ways to show school pride, and even procedural expectations. What to do if they need something out of their seat, what should they do with technology, and even how they should enter and leave the classroom every day.

Memory books always kept my kids entertained, but were also great for early finishers. Students can show off their coloring skills, as well as give you the ability to get to know them a little bit better.
I'd love for you to check it out at my TpT store -

What kinds of activities do you do with your students at the beginning of the year?
I'd love to hear!

But First...Let Me Take a Selfie | Back to School Writing Activity

The beginning of the year is the perfect time to get to know your students and let your students get to know each other! This little writing activity allows students to show off their writing skills from the previous school year, while illustrating a fun little self portrait of themselves in a more modern, cool, hip, #awesome, way!

But first...let me take a SELFIE!
Back to School Writing Activity

Choose the writing paper that best fits your students needs. Each writing paper comes with various spacing options, along with either a black/white or color version. Once students write a little about themselves, they can draw their SELFIE! In the screen box on the iPhone!

This makes for a super cute bulletin board outside or inside the classroom. I like to glue their writing paper onto a piece of colored paper, and the glue their selfie onto the corner of their writing paper, making sure not to block their writing. This was a super cute display during Curriculum Night, where all the parents and students could check out the kids work!

If you want to snag this cute little back to school writing activity, head on over to my TpT store!

How do y'all get to know your kids at the beginning of the school year? :)
